Institute Results 2008-2009
An Inventory of the 2008-2009 Puyallup – Sumner Leadership Institute
- 13 engaged participants (participant feedback forthcoming)
- 24 Institute presenters including city managers, a mayor, state representative, economic expert, hospital president, best-selling author, school superintendent and a number of other influential leaders
- Eight full-day in-depth sessions (one cancelled due to December snow). Sessions hosted at five different sites in the community (the Fair, Newell Hunt, Puyallup Library, Good Sam, and Pierce College)
- A mixed methods instructional approach: small group discussion, personal reflection and assessment, team facilitation, follow up phone calls and emails between sessions, video-taping, role playing, lecture, and site tours
- Suggested textbook: Speed of Trust, provided to all participants
- Participant teams planned and facilitated each of the eight sessions: Purpose: to increase engagement and ownership of each session’s approach and content
- Each participant received a thorough personal assessment using the Extended DISC Assessment System
- An up-to-date website that chronicles the Institute’s progress:
- Threaded discussion page to facilitate between-session discussion and reflection
- Resource repository page
- Session-by-session descriptions and lessons learned
- Chamber invitations to community events
- A feedback survey has been designed and will be administered to participants, and to sponsoring organizations, to elicit ‘what has worked well’ and ‘areas for improvement’
