TERESA DONOVAN
enjoys the opportunity to share her more than twenty-five years of executive
level experience in operations and management for both ‘for profit’
and non-profit organizations. She has broad experience working with
and growing organizations ranging in size from $1 million to $17 million
budgets with a staff of 12 employees up to 800 employees. She is an
experienced speaker, presenter, and instructor on budget development
and financial management for non-profits and on the development and
implementation of social enterprises.
Currently, Ms. Donovan is an instructor for the
University of Washington’s Fundraising Management Certificate
Program where she teaches the Finance for
Fundraising Management course. As the former Deputy Director
for Plymouth Housing Group (PHG) which provides permanent housing and
support services to individuals who are homeless, she provided direct
oversight of the organization’s operations which included policy
development, human resources, finance, housing programs, and social
services. She also developed, implemented and administered PHG’s
first social enterprise, Plymouth Café.
Ms. Donovan’s previous positions include
serving as Vice-president of Operations for Cambridge Corporation, a
property management and investment company in the state of Virginia,
where she launched a new direction for the company by successfully developing
a home improvement business. She also served as Director of Planning
and Budget for Grafton School, a non-profit organization in Virginia
which provides residential, academic, and vocational services to individuals
with developmental and emotional disabilities. Her responsibilities
included development, implementation, and monitoring of operational
and capital budgets, strategic planning, policy development, marketing,
fundraising and board development. She played a key role in growing
the organization from a local school serving children to a multi-state
organization serving individuals of all ages. She has also co-owned
and managed small businesses that include property management, equipment
rental, and electronic parts manufacturing.
In addition to her work, Ms.Donovan is actively
involved in the community. Volunteer activities include serving on a
local Chamber of Commerce’s Business-Education Council as a “Choices”
presenter in area high schools; mentoring “at-risk” adolescent
girls; fundraising and training volunteers for a regional public library;
and heading a crisis referral agency. In addition, she served as a volunteer
for an independent elementary school as board president, chair of executive,
long-range planning, development and nominating committees, and member
of the finance and program committees.
Ms. Donovan also served on a task force
for the Commonwealth of Virginia that designed and implemented a networked,
statewide service fee directory that public and private agencies could
access for information on services available for “at-risk”
children.
Although most of her formal education comes
from Seattle University, University of WA and Western WA University,
Ms.Donovan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Shenandoah
University in Virginia.
