Building Metacognition & Thinking Skills

Audience:  If you are a K-12 teacher or specialist, ABE or GED instructor, GEAR UP teacher, a counselor, tutor, or mentor working with in-school or out-of-school youth, this workshop is for you!

Description:

Developing higher order thinking or metacognitive skills is essential for student success. Join Nancie for a highly interactive session using student-centered strategies of inquiry and critical thinking to expand and generalize fifteen skill sets including problem solving, memory, organization, association, self-evaluation, generalization, insight, prioritization, and flexibility of thinking. Explore real-life application using fun, meaningful, hands-on ways and significantly improve higher order thinking skills with students at all levels. Participants will receive tools and materials that can be immediately used in classrooms and learning environments.  

Participants Will:

  • Review the 15 metacognitive skills sets
  • Learn how to improve students’ metacognition through activity-based, hands-on exercises
  • Understand how to integrate the tools and skill sets into existing and new curriculum and lessons
  • Have a set of activities to immediately use with students in whole group, small group and one-to-one instruction settings

CEUs / Free Clock Hours

Free Clock Hours are available after the workshop.

Participants can register for Highline Community College Continuing Education Units (CEUs) before starting a course. The cost is $10 per course. Participant should call Community Education at 206-870-3785 to apply.

 

Cancellation Policy:
The cancellation fee is $25. If you must cancel your registration, you may request a refund minus the $25 fee up to 3 working days prior to the event. After this date, no refunds will be issued; you can make substitutions. "No-shows" will be charged the full workshop fee.

Note: All fees must be received within 90 days after event or a service fee of $25 will be added.
