Phase II for English and Science College Readiness

The Higher Education Coordinating Board plans to seek state and private funds to continue with Phase II of the English and science college readiness project. Phase II would establish cross-sector teams of teachers to pilot the use of college readiness definitions in 11th and 12th grade classrooms.
If funded, the teams’ responsibilities would include:

  • identify and develop exemplar teaching materials, assignments and assessment practices,

  • participate in a research strategy to measure outcomes of Phase II activities;

  • use student works to assess effectiveness of college readiness teaching strategies

  • propose changes to college readiness definitions and attributes, based on classroom experience;

  • help develop professional development training models that complement and enhance K-12 learning goals;

  • assist in developing recommendations for system-wide implementation of college readiness strategies that can be integrated with existing K-12 educational practices and assessment systems.
