Jerald R. Forster

Jerald R. ForsterJerald received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1966 and joined the University of Washington faculty immediately after graduation. He is a Counseling Psychologist who prepared counselors and psychologists for their professional responsibilities from 1966 until 2004. During his entire career he has specialized in the facilitation of optimal development, focusing on the articulation of strengths, goals, and values.

In 1987, Jerald collaborated with Bernard Haldane to create the Dependable Strengths Project at the U.W. College of Education. He helped create the Center for Dependable Strengths in 2003 and continues to facilitate workshops that help participants articulate their Dependable Strengths.

Jerald also serves on the boards of three non-profit organizations. He has been an active participant in the functions of Philanthropy Northwest.

Karen PorterfieldKaren Porterfield

Seattle University Associate Dean, Karen Porterfield, teaches management and leadership for the non profit and government sectors in the Masters of Public Administration program.
She has over twenty years of nonprofit organization and management experience, including leadership and board development, strategic planning, fiscal management, staff management, program management, community and constituency relationships, project management, capital campaigns and fund development.

She has managed state wide programs, helped develop affordable housing, and has helped raise over $265 million dollars that enabled organizations meet their mission while supporting program goals.

Matt Aspin, CPC.

Matt AspinIn a career that has included operations leadership, organizational development, and executive career management roles, one overwhelming theme has characterized each of Matt’s endeavors-a never-ending quest to identify and bring forth the untapped potential in both people and systems. A natural talent for seeing possibilities and a well-developed ability to inspire those around him aligned perfectly with the rapidly growing field of coaching.

Matt recently stepped into the role of Manager of Training and Development at BECU, a rapidly growing, member-owned cooperative credit union whose success is due in no small part to its commitment to the development of its people. He has an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, and pursued his Masters degree in Adult and Organizational Learning from Suffolk University. He received his Certified Professional Coach designation from the Academy of Coach Training in Bellevue, WA.

A recent transplant from Boston, Matt has spent the past 3 years becoming increasingly active in the Seattle community. He serves on the boards of both Seattle-SHRM and EcoEncore, a social entrepreneurial non-profit with a successful model of self-sustainability. He is also an active volunteer with the Executive Service Corps, providing pro-bono coaching and organizational consulting to a variety of local non-profits.

Morgan Zantua

Morgan ZantuaMorgan Zantua works closely with individuals and organizations to help build capacity for positive change. She has been using Appreciative Inquiry as a change model locally, nationally and internationally in non-profit, educational, governmental and tribal settings. Morgan believes AI embodies the principals necessary to build leadership at all levels within our society.

Morgan earned a Master’s Degree in Whole Systems Design, Organizational Systems Renewal at Antioch University - Seattle in 2001. She completed Weatherhead School of Management’s (Case Western Reserve University) certificate program in Appreciative Inquiry under the mentorship of David Cooperrider and Ronald Frye in 2003 and is a certified trainer for the Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator Training offered through the Company of Experts.

Morgan’s training programs and consulting services actualize her belief in the concept of leadership at all levels, developed through an appreciative process of what works, to anticipate, welcome and drive change for positive outcomes.

Patricia M. Hughes

Patricia HughesFor the past sixteen years Patricia (Pat) Hughes has helped build leadership capacity for individuals, organizations and community groups.

Pat is the owner of Trillium Leadership Consulting, where she provides executive coaching, leadership training and organizational development to non-profit organizations, government agencies and small businesses. Pat has a deep passion for helping clients integrate closely held values with their personal lives, workplace or community. She applies her exceptional skills as an educator, program designer, facilitator, coach and writer toward this work.

Pat is also a Senior Affiliate with the Center for Ethical Leadership, a non-profit organization in Seattle where she worked for nine years. In 2004, Pat wrote Gracious Space: A Practical Guide for Working Better Together for the Center.

Previously, Pat directed the Leadership Institute in Redmond, Washington, where her innovative approach to leadership development was awarded by the International Leadership Association.

She has a master’s degree in organizational development from Seattle’s Antioch University and a bachelor’s in economics and international relations from the University of New Hampshire.

In her spare time Pat is a mountaineer, triathlete, writer and bird watcher. She lives in Ballard with her husband and daughter.

Susan Terry

Susan TerrySusan Terry has worked in higher education throughout her career. She holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work and is currently the Director of the Center for Career Services at the University of Washington.

Susan is one of the founding members of the non-profit organization, the
Center for Dependable Strengths, which is dedicated to the perpetuation and expansion of Bernard Haldane's historic work. Additionally, she is a Certified Master Trainer of the Dependable Strengths Articulation Process.

Yvonne Freitas McGookin

Yvonne Freitas McGookinAs a leader, educator, consultant, and coach, Yvonne Freitas McGookin is in the “development business”. For over fifteen years, she has been an active and progressive practitioner of human resources development, organizational development, and career development. Yvonne has brought her “passion for possibilities” to her work with nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies to develop staff, managers, and their organizations helping them to recognize and achieve their fullest potential and desired outcomes.

Committed to lifelong learning, Yvonne enjoys designing and delivering courses that are creative, experiential, and practical. She has provided training to local community colleges and has previously served on the faculty at Cambridge College School of Management. Most recently, Yvonne has been conducting workshops introducing the power of coaching, as a management tool, to area nonprofit and educational institutions.

Yvonne holds a Master’s degree in Education, with an emphasis in Organizational Development and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She has a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), is a qualified administrator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI), and is trained in the use of Dependable Strengths®. She received professional coaching training at the Academy for Coach Training.

An ardent supporter of the local and global community, Yvonne actively volunteers with several organizations. Currently, she serves on the Board of the Executive Services Corps of Washington (ESC) where she is also providing volunteer consulting and coaching support to area nonprofits and educational organizations. During the winter months, Yvonne serves as a volunteer snowshoe instructor for Skiforall, a local nonprofit serving people with disabilities. In 2005, the Seattle City Club recognized Yvonne’s dedication to civic/community involvement by naming her one of the “Voices and Faces of Seattle”.
