Trainer Biography
KARA LAVERDE, M.S.W., B.A.
Kara Laverde has fifteen years of experience providing organizational development services for non-profit, government, and business clients. She specializes in adult learning, including curriculum development, training delivery, and evaluation. Kara has a broad background in organizational development and is seasoned in areas including project management, meeting facilitation, team development, vendor management, coaching, train-the-trainer, and leadership development.
Past experience includes a position as a Training Specialist with Casey Family Programs and as coordinator of a domestic violence training program for physicians for Providence Health Systems. Kara is a social worker with clinical experience in primary health care and family violence. Certifications include Facilitative Leadership through Interaction Associates.
Kara received a BA from Smith College and an MSW from the University of Washington
MONIQUE SHIRA, B.A.
Monique Shira has nineteen years of experience in the field of non-profit communications. She specializes in creating public relations and marketing plans, as well as promotional writing and non-profit management.
Monique's past experience includes a post as the Communications Manager at the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle where she oversaw the marketing and public relations efforts for the museum's exhibition and education programs. She also worked as the Public Relations Officer at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, Connecticut. Her current work includes consulting on public relations and marketing and contributing in her community.
Monique has facilitated groups including as a Program for Early Parent Support leader and as a Chairperson for her preschool co-operative.
Monique received her BA in English and Psychology from the University of Connecticut.
