ETHICS IN THE WORK SETTING:
Guidance for difficult situations

Wednesday, September 23, 2009
8:30 am – 1:00 pm

Location:
The 2100 Building
2100 24th Avenue S.
Seattle, WA 98144

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

What are the situations in your work life that challenge your professional ethics? What is it about them that makes them difficult to resolve?

Ethical dilemmas that are resistant to easy answers arise when competing values and principles are at stake. Why is this? Is there any guidance from professional codes of ethics? How can one be an ethical person in the midst of messy life challenges that seem to defy easy resolution?

This interactive workshop will invite participants to re-create their own real-life work situations where ethical questions emerge. During the workshop, you will be given some tools to help identify and analyze such situations.

Required prep work: 20 copies of your own professional code of ethics. These will be used and shared during the workshop.

Participants can anticipate that this workshop will provide them with:

  1. Hands-on experience in analyzing ethical dilemmas
  2. Understanding a framework for ethical decisions
  3. Tools for reflecting upon competing values in ethical decision-making
  4. Critical ingredients for being an ethical person

(This workshop has been designed for staff across levels.)
