“SPECIAL ISSUES” SERIES: LEARNING DISABILITIES

Wednesday, November 5, 2008
9:00 am – 4:30 pm

Location:
The 2100 Building
2100 24th Avenue S.
Seattle, WA 98144

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

This full day interactive training will provide you with in-depth information about learning disabilities and related disorders with adequate skills to effectively recognize, assess basic needs, identify next steps, and connect with resources in a consumer-based delivery system.

    Participants will be able to:

  • Review basic definitions and terms associated with learning disabilities and related disorders
  • Learn to recognize general characteristics and manifestations of learning disabilities
    and related disorders.
  • Learn to recognize the responsibilities inherent in serving individuals who have learning
    disabilities.
  • Review objective assessment standards and methods of informal screening
  • Know when to refer for further Learning Disability assessment services.
  • Review procedures and potential resources available to address next steps while
acknowledging the need for the customer to make informed choices.
  • Learn how to define and apply general modifications and accommodations relative to
    services provided by the organization.

(This workshop has been designed for frontline staff, case managers and counselors who are either new to their roles or as a refresher to those who already hold these positions, and supervisory staff.)

“I now appreciate how complex learning disabilities are and I’ll try not to label or assess clients but rather focus on how best to accommodate them in their needs.”

“ The simulations, the packets, detailed presentation of the types, characteristics and manifestations -- all information was valuable !”

“ This is one of the only training I have attended in over 15 years of work experience that provides a wealth of information... absolutely brilliant, amazing and satisfying !”
