“Building Leadership Skills” Series

Workshop 1: DEVELOPING HIGH PERFORMING WORK TEAMS

Tuesday, June 10, 2008
9:00 am – 4:30 pm

Location
The 2100 Building
2100 24th Avenue South
Seattle WA 98144
206.407.2100

Is your team really a team?

The truth is most workplace teams fail the test despite the fact that the number one concern for most leaders in today’s organizations is improving teamwork.  Most organizations are under great pressure to do more with less—teams are critical for success.  Though true high performing teams are rare—they are a powerful advantage.  On the flip side, the cost to organizations for team dysfunction is astronomical.  Knowing how to lead a high performing team is vital to effective leadership and the success of any organization.  The good news—much of what you need to know will be covered in this important workshop.

This interactive training provides participants an opportunity to evaluate their team for the critical elements of team success—trust, productive conflict, commitment, accountability and attention to results, while learning new techniques and strategies to improve these areas. Through discussion and activities, participants will gain new understanding of normal team development and how to get their people ‘rowing in the same direction’ to achieve incredible results.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Understand normal team development stages
    • Learn the seven characteristics of high performing work teams
    • Identify whether or not your team is really a team
    • Learn new tools and methodologies to develop your team including developing SMART goals for commitment, building trust, offering effective feedback and difficult conversation strategies
    • Identify team norms currently holding back performance
    • Identify new team norms to increase performance
    • Identify a collective team goal for their team
    • Develop an action plan to begin working with their team to improve performance
