General Information

These modules will be presented at colleges in various locations in the state in 4-6 hour sessions, throughout the year.

Individuals may participate in all four modules ($250) or take modules independently ($75).

Groups of 10 or more (Councils, Commissions, Colleges, etc.) can contract as a cohort in any or all programs at their location and timeframe.

Leading from the Middle

This newly re-designed ASSOCIATION-sponsored program is open to ALL Washington state community and technical college employees and is especially intended for those who are:

  • new to a position of leadership,
  • have never had training for an administrative role,
  • making a transition from staff or faculty to administrator or exempt position, or
  • are new to the Washington CTC System

4 MODULES in the Curriculum Include:

Leadership Development Understanding the Role of the
State Board
  • Reflect on your core values and how they impact your leadership
  • Explore your view of others and how that impacts performance
  • Understand leader growth and your role in others’ development
  • Learn the key tenets of authentic and transformational leadership
  • How the SBCTC system works
  • What is the Board of the SBCTC
  • Legislative and state agency relationsThe development of the policy agenda for the State Board

Budget and Finance

Human Resource

  • Understanding of WA two-year colleges’ financial structure
  • College funding sources and trends
  • How colleges spend their money
  • Management and Supervision
  • Labor Relations
  • Effective Recruiting
  • Legal aspects of all the above topics


Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation fee is $25.00; If you must cancel your registration, you may request a refund minus the $25 fee up to 5 working days prior to the event. After this date, no refunds will be issued; you can make substitutions. "No-shows" will be charged the full workshop fee.

Note: All fees must be received within 90 days after the event or a service fee of $25 will be added.
